For the 23rd year, free tax return assistance will be available to low income and elderly South Carolinians through the University of South Carolina School of Law. The service will be provided by law students participating in the school’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program.
Tax return preparation will be conducted in the lobby of the law school on Wednesdays from 5:30-8 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. – 12 noon beginning Feb. 15 and ending March 29. A limited number of returns will be prepared during each session on a first-come, first-served basis. No appointment is necessary.
The volunteer students will prepare and file simple South Carolina and federal tax returns. No business or self-employment returns or complicated forms can be completed at this site.
The USC School of Law lobby is located at 701 Main Street and is entered from Green Street, between Assembly and Main streets.
VITA is one of over 20 programs available through the law school’s Pro Bono program, the nation’s oldest all-volunteer pro bono program. For more information about the other volunteer opportunities, click here.
