Free Tax Assistance for Low Income and Elderly Clients Available at the Law School

For the 24th year, certified volunteer law students at the University of South Carolina School of Law will provide tax assistance to the low income and elderly community.

From February 13 to March 26, tax returns will be prepared on Wednesdays between 5:30 – 8 p.m. and Saturdays between 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. in the law school lobby.  Volunteers will prepare and file simple South Carolina and federal returns—no business, self-employment, or complex forms.

Clients are required to bring:

  • All W-2 forms
  • Relevant tax documents
  • Social Security cards for the taxpayer and any dependents
  • Government-issued photo ID of the taxpayer

No appointment is necessary, but a limited number of returns will be prepared at each session on a first-come, first-served basis.  The School of Law is located at 701 Main Street and is entered from Green Street, between Assembly and Main streets.
