Juveniles accused of crimes here are being improperly led to waive their rights and plead guilty of charges without independent legal advice, defense lawyers and court filings claim.
The allegations mirror some Justice Department complaints that followed an investigation of the St. Louis County Family Court last year. It found inadequate due process and said the court failed to “make adequate determinations that there is probable cause that a child committed the alleged offense.”
The St. Charles County criticism comes as juvenile courts in Missouri and around the country are under increased scrutiny. <Read More>
